It’s the middle of the night and you’re conjuring something ancient. Something forbidden. Something…undead. You have your black candles lit. And your dark red incense burning from the censor. It’s a formidable scent and brand of incense that’s gaining popularity in the magical community. It’s called Vampire Blood Incense. Absolutely perfect for your night of spells and seances. Yet this incense sounds intense and somewhat morbid, right? Well, yes. It is all of those things and more. I have found it’s one of my favorite types of incense because of its powerful magical properties and its beautiful aroma. Let’s learn all about it and how to use it, shall we?
First, What IS a Vampire, Exactly?
Ahh, the undead. The creatures of the night. Vampires. They’ve invaded our literature, moves, and TV shows for the past century…at least. And they’ve been at the forefront of many a superstitious mind for even longer than that. The belief in vampire-like spirits and creatures actually dates back to ancient times. Possibly even prehistoric. But the blood-sucking, sparkly vampires we know today are a far cry from the original revenants and ghouls that haunted graveyards and crossroads in centuries past.
You might be surprised to learn that the original vampires were probably hungry ancestors…spirits that return to the earth to partake in offerings of “blood” given by their descendants at certain sacred times of the year. Or possibly demonic entities or dark beings looking to “feed” off the living’s energy. Typically a night-time occurrence, since its easier for dark things to hide in the dark. Vampires might also be a form of elemental, since we have folklore from the Celtic lands of faery beings that feed off the blood or energy of their unsuspecting, living victims. In addition, witches were often buried with rocks over their graves or boards over their tombs so that they wouldn’t return as vampires!
What is Vampire Blood Incense?
So, is vampire blood incense made from the blood of a vampire? Well, how could it be? I thought vampires didn’t have blood, that’s why they seek the blood of the living. They are always yearning for what they don’t have…or can’t have. They are NEVER satiated. The answer is no. Vampire blood incense isn’t made with the blood of vampires. Sadly.
However, it is made with a base of ingredients that evokes vibes of the most beloved and aromatic scents in the incense making world. Its herbal ingredients resemble something like sandalwood or nag champa with hints of vanilla, berries, and an indistinguishable floral scent. The brand that manufactures this sensory-pleasing incense is Nandita, and I’ve seen it sold on Amazon (link below) as well as many other metaphysical stores online and local. Even the box is decorative and fun with shades of black and red and “splashes” of red blood. Others have described vampire blood incense as being “floral” and “musky”. You’ll have to try it yourself to find out.
What is the Meaning of Vampire Blood Incense?
What would it mean to have a vial of vampire blood? I would automatically think it means the impossible, having in your possession of vial of immortality. Of neverending life. And of a connection with the elements of earth and water, since the vampire being itself is linked to these 2 specific elements. Earth, because the vampire must slumber within the earth in order to stay alive. And water, because the vampire’s very existence is based on the consumption of blood. Therefore, we can think of vampire blood incense as linked to these two elements when it comes to the meaning. In addition, these 2 elements and vampire blood incense are linked to the Dark Feminine, present in the night, the moon, and death.

Ways to use Vampire Blood Incense in Your Practice
The ways in which you decide to use vampire blood incense in your practice is only limited by your imagination and what you want to do with it. Here are a few ideas:
1. Burn in the bedroom to ignite one’s passion
Probably one of the most effective and common ways of using vampire blood incense in your spiritual practice is to burn it in the bedroom before engaging in any romantic or erotic play with your (willing) partner. One of this incense’s claims to fame is its aphrodisiac-like properties, so why not put it to the test? If your partner is sensitive to incense smoke or strong aromas, maybe consider burning it well ahead of time and then open the windows to air it out a bit before they show up.
2. To Work with Ancestors and Underworld Deities
Vampire blood incense has properties and ingredients that connect it to the Underworld. If that wasn’t obvious by its name. If you’re planning on working with your ancestors, particularly near Samhain, or deities from the Underworld, consider stocking up on vampire blood incense. I like to burn it before ritual, divination sessions, and as offerings to these beings.
3. Add the Cones to Magical Protection Powders
You might not be able to do this with the incense sticks, but with the vampire blood incense cones, grind them down in your mortar and pestle. Then add the remnants to a powerful protection powder and sprinkle over your thresholds to keep out wandering spirits and malevolent fae. This is also an effective ward for the classic psychic vampire…and clingy narcissist.
4. Burn to Cleanse Sacred Space
If you’re preparing for an elaborate ritual, a deep divination session, or a shamanic journey, consider burning vampire blood incense in your space beforehand. This incense is a purifier and will cleanse the air of your sacred space of negative energy and ward off evil entities in the vicinity. I believe this is because of the sandalwood and dragons blood it contains. Either way, I’ve had nothing but success in using it as a purifying incense.
5. Carry the Cones On Your Person
If you have vampire blood incense cones, these are easy to transport and carry around with you. Should you need a potent warding device, add a cone or two or three to a sachet or small bag then wear around your neck. This ought to keep those pesky vampires from trying to suck your blood. You can also keep them in your purse or in your car as a protective amulet. Then replace with new ones once they’ve crumbled or gotten old.
6. Smoke Cleanse Your Bottles, Jars, and Trinkets
Everyone knows the practice of smoke-cleansing is powerful and easy to do. But quite a few people forget that smoke cleansing with an entire herb bundle every time isn’t a requirement. In fact, you can use an incense stick in much the same way as an herb bundle. And, truth be told, the smoke that incense sticks produce is effective yet not such a large quantity that it will set off your smoke alarm. I don’t know how many times I’ve done that with my rosemary or sage bundle in the past. Use vampire blood incense sticks to cleanse your spell jars, bottles, and other trinkets by allowing the smoke to rise into and around whatever object you’re cleansing.
7. Burn this Incense While Meditating or Journeying
This incense is transformative and otherworldly, IMO. I’ve burned it while meditating and while journeying to the other realms. In my experience, it facilitates an easy transition from one state of mind to another. And protects from any astral “clinger” spirits from returning with you. According to the manufacturer, they hope that it “heightens sensations” and “brings inner feelings of nirvana”.
